Congressman Tim Moore Introduces National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day Resolution

Friday, January 9, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressman Tim Moore (NC-14) introduced a bipartisan resolution to recognize January 9, 2026, as National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, honoring the courage and sacrifice of the men and women who wear the badge at the local, state, and federal levels. The resolution, co-led by Congressman Don Davis (NC-01), sends a strong message of support and gratitude to law enforcement officers across the country.

“Every single day, our brave law enforcement officers put their lives on the line to keep Americans safe and uphold the rule of law,” said Congressman Tim Moore. “This resolution is one way for Congress to say thank you, but it can’t stop there. We must also advance policies that give them the tools, training, and respect they need to do their jobs and get home safely. At a time when some in politics and the media use dangerous rhetoric that targets law enforcement, we must stand firm in support of those who defend our communities.”

“America’s law enforcement officers serve with extraordinary courage, dignity, and professionalism, often at great personal risk, to safeguard our communities and uphold the rule of law. This resolution recognizing January 9, 2026, as National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day is a meaningful and timely affirmation of the nation’s gratitude, honoring the daily sacrifices of those who serve, remembering those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, and recognizing acts of heroism carried out in service to others,” said Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (FLEOA) National President Mathew Silverman. “FLEOA proudly supports this resolution and thanks Representative Tim Moore, and all advocates of this resolution. We encourage all Americans to observe this day by demonstrating respect, support, and appreciation for law enforcement officers across the United States.”

"The FOP extends its gratitude to Representatives Tim Moore and Don Davis for today’s symbolic resolution expressing support for the law enforcement community. We appreciate their understanding of the sacrifices our officers make everyday—often quietly and without fanfare—to keep our neighborhoods safe and subsequently express our thanks a little bit louder,” said Patrick Yoes, National President, National Fraternal Order of Police.

Sheriff Chris West, President, National Sheriffs' Association, added,“National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day is an important opportunity to honor the service, courage, and commitment of the men and women who protect our communities. The National Sheriffs' Association strongly supports this resolution and thanks Representative Moore for recognizing law enforcement officers who serve our nation with integrity and dedication.”

“The North Carolina Sheriffs’ Association appreciates our members of Congress who recognize and value the significant sacrifices and contributions made by America’s law-enforcement officers who protect and serve our communities every day throughout the year,” said Eddie Caldwell, Executive Vice President and General Counsel, North Carolina Sheriffs’ Association.

"State, county, and local police officers, deputies, troopers, and agents put their lives on the line each day to serve and protect their communities. Too often, law enforcement officers find themselves working in an environment which risks not only their safety, but morale, retention, hiring, and mental health. It is vital that officers know our government and communities have their backs. We appreciate Congressman Moore’s resolution in support of the recognition of January 9, 2026, as 'National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day' and look forward to working with him to honor and protect those who protect us,” said Bill Johnson, Executive Director, National Association of Police Organizations.
