Congressman Tim Moore Raises Concerns on Healthcare Fraud and Competition During Field Hearing in Charlotte

Tuesday, September 15, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C. - During the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Administrative State, Regulatory Reform, and Antitrust field hearing in Charlotte, Congressman Tim Moore (NC-14) raised concerns about fraud and government subsidies driving up healthcare costs for North Carolina families.

"Despite decades of increased federal spending and regulation, we still see that healthcare remains too expensive and too difficult to access, not only in North Carolina, but in other states as well," said Congressman Moore. "Part of the problem...is that we move too far away from a healthcare system that's driven by competition and toward one shaped by government regulations and subsidies. [The statistic] that a fourth of the spending is estimated to be waste, fraud, and abuse is unbelievable [and it's] what we need to be looking at."

The hearing, "Examining Healthcare Markets: Fraud and Competition,” examined the effect of mergers, certificate of need laws, regulations, vertical integration, and fraudulent insurance practices on healthcare access and affordability in the U.S.
